Start with the real use case
Explain where the bag will be used, what it carries, how often it is handled and how much water exposure is expected. A commuter backpack, kayak dry bag and commercial marine duffel may all be described as waterproof, but they need different closures, reinforcement and carrying systems.
Turn the brief into a controlled specification
The approved specification should identify the material construction, colour reference, panel dimensions, seam method, closure, webbing, buckles, reinforcement, logo method and packaging. Visual approval alone is not enough for repeatable production.

Use the sample to close decisions
A sample is most useful when it answers defined questions. Check access, carrying comfort, load distribution, attachment points, cleaning and the intended waterproof test. Record approved changes so the production reference is unambiguous.
Plan repeat orders before the first order
Confirm which material, colour, hardware and workmanship points must remain consistent. Agree how substitutions are handled and which checks are made before shipment. This reduces avoidable variation when a successful model is reordered.
